Security teams are often seen as the department that says "no." But the most impactful security professionals operate differently: they know the business, use data to drive decisions, and influence without authority. These are not just technical skills, they are career accelerators.
In this WiCyS webinar, Amazon will share three frameworks for making security a strategic asset and advancing your career:
1. Know the business - Understand how your organization makes money and measures success. Security leaders who speak the language of the business earn trust, get funded, and get promoted. 2. Data over instinct - A small number of root causes drive the majority of failures. Finding that signal is the most valuable skill in security today. 3. Influence over authority - Drive change when you don't own the roadmap. Data-driven storytelling and shared accountability are what separate senior leaders from everyone else.
This talk includes practical advice on building a career where your impact compounds: choosing the right first role, finding mentors who challenge you, and positioning yourself as someone the business cannot succeed without.
Whether you are a student exploring cybersecurity, early in your career, or looking to level up, you will leave with a playbook for increasing your impact and accelerating your growth.
